The days of the week

So, Tami asked me last week what we do all day. I have tried to keep busy with the kids this summer so they (and I) don't get bored. I thought back to what we did and there was an activity every day. We do our chores in the morning usually and then do something fun in the afternoon. Monday we had friends over to play, Tuesday we go to ward playgroup at the church (too hot for the park now), Wed. we went swimming at Grandma's house, Thursday we went to the free movie at the theater and then went to the library in the afternoon, and Friday we went to the park for another playgroup.
After playgroup on Friday, Lucia was upset because she's the only kid her age with training wheels on her bike. So, Julio promised to help her practice riding her bike on Saturday. She is just like me! She gets so frustrated if she doesn't get something right away. She was crying and upset because she couldn't do it herself, yet she wouldn't let Julio let go of her either.
On another note, Sylvie is 10 months old today! I didn't write about her 9 month mark, so I need to catch up. She is sort of crawling-she scoots on her bum and gets up on her knees and tries to stand up. She does pull herself up on anything she can get her hands on and cruises. She is not sleeping well-she wakes up in the night and stands up in her crib and yells at me. She is only a foot away from my bed, so there's no ignoring her! She weighed 15 lbs. 10 oz. at her last doctor's appt. She is so tiny! She is still in some 3-6 month clothes, but mostly wears 6-9 month stuff. The clothes that Lucia wore at this age are very long on her. She's a shorty like me! She is so much fun though and we love her sweet personality. She always makes us happy-even Mr. Grump (Marco) gets happy when he sees her in the morning.

Michael Jackson 1958-2009

So, my first memory of Michael Jackson was in approximately 1983. His album Thriller came out and I remember watching his video on tv. We had a babysitter and I was scared the rest of the night after seeing Thriller. I loved his music as a little girl. I remember going to a swapmeet with my cousins and begging my mom for a little pin with Michael Jackson on it. I wanted it so badly! He is a legend-so talented and creative. Crazy how we forget he was whacko in his later years-you remember him at his height of fame-in his prime and that image is what will always remain with you. The world of pop culture and music changed because of him and the world won't be the same without him in it.

I'm tired!

Sylvie has been sick for nearly a week now. The diagnosis: Herpangina. Anyone ever heard of it? I hadn't. She was feverish and fussy for a few days before we took her in to the doctor. She had sores on her throat and tonsels. After the fever broke, she got a rash that covers her body. She is miserable! I haven't been getting much rest as a consequence. I stayed home from church with her on Sunday, but we did get to the park today. She likes to be outside.
On a sad note, the bad economy has hit the family hard! My dad got laid off last week without notice or severance pay. Then, my brother got laid off yesterday-after working for them for 5 years! So, we are praying that things go better for them and that things will get resolved soon.
We have still not found a house. Everything in our price range is crap! I guess we just have to wait until something comes up and hope some cash investor doesn't come swipe it from under our feet! Maybe Julio will get a raise soon and we can afford more-who knows! We just want to get the tax credit before the end of the year and have some more space. We are so cramped here!
I guess that is all for now. It's supposed to warm up here so maybe we can use the pool again and crawl out of our hole we've been in the past week.

Lucia turns 5!

Blowing out her 5 candles.

She was so excited to get her new "big girl" bike.

Her winning smile.

Age 18 months-almost bald!

Lucia at 5 months

On June 10, 2004 at 2:16 p.m. Lucia Mariana entered the world. All the nurses in the hospital kept saying she was such a beautiful baby! She was and still is. She is smart, witty, sweet, determined, and lovable. We are so grateful to have her in our family.

A day of fun...

So anticipating Lucia's birthday this Wed., we decided to go spend a day together as a family and have some fun. Grandma and Grandpa and Lucia's friend Madelyn came with us. We decided to have a picnic in the park to start out. We were all eating and Marco was running around (as usual). Then, he started complaining that his tummy hurt. A minute later, he was hiding behind a tree and then came out to announce he was poopy. So, we went to change him, only to find the most disgusting....well I won't go into that! We had to change all of his clothes and throw out the blanket he was lying on while we changed him. Then, Lucia was running around and tripped and fell hard! She scraped up her arm and knees and was really upset. Whoa-things were going great! NOT!

So then, we went down to Funderland which is this old carnival like park. It has old rickety rides that were pretty fun. Lucia is usually our scaredy cat and doesn't like to do daring things, but she was the first one to want to go on all the rides. Her favorite ride was the dragon rollercoaster. Marco, our usual daredevil, was clutching to me for dear life on the carousel and they had to stop the mini rollercoaster to let him off. We also went to Fairy Tale Town and the kids ran all around and got tired out. We were all exhausted by the end of the day. Fortunately, the weather was perfect-so no complaints there. It turned out to be a good day, even though it may have started out a little imperfectly.
