Stormy Sunday

It has been storming all weekend. I’ve been sick in bed with nausea and vertigo. It’s nice that Julio’s been home to take care of the kids and the house. Sylvie and I stayed home from church today and had some quality time together. We sang songs, read stories, played Polly Pockets, and I quizzed her on her colors using M&M’s. She knows all her colors and can sing the ABC song all by herself and she can count to 12! What a smart girl!

St. Patrick's Day

I'm not big on this holiday-it seems kind of pointless to me.We aren't Irish. But we did wear green today. Lucia started talking about leprechauns about a week ago and how they've been coming to her classroom leaving gold coins and tracks. So they must be real! So, when we got home from school today, we found that a leprechaun has visited our house! There were gold chocolate coins all over the house! I guess that's the least "he" could do since there won't be any corned beef and cabbage or dyed green food at our house (nobody would eat it anyway).

Sweet Sylvie

Ok, so I have to say that using Windows Live Writer is so much easier than using blogger! Why didn’t I do it before?
This morning Sylvie came in our room about 8:00 and got in bed with us. She started stroking Julio’s cheek (he was asleep) and then she kissed him on the cheek. It was so sweet! She is such a lovey dovey girl. She does have her crazy side too. Her new thing is chasing around the kids yelling in the little high pitched voice, “I’m the big bad wolf! I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow you down! RRROOAR!!”    She also gets really upset when she’s tired and can’t get comfortable in her car seat. The other day, I told her to use her blanket for a pillow and this is what she did:

Saturday

While I was home attempting to potty train Sylvie, Julio took Lucia and Marco up to the snow. It was a long anticipated trip, one they’d been looking forward to all winter. We procrastinated in looking for snow gear, so were scrambling at the last minute. They ended up layering and wearing their rain boots, which apparently worked just fine. So, after driving all around to get new boots for Marco and a sled, get the parking pass and gas, they left for Iron Mountain. It’s about 90 miles up 50 and off some other highway, but Lucia and Marco got carsick on the way. Julio almost turned back, but after the kids puked, used the restroom and got some food, they pushed on. So, after being gone for nearly 6 hours, they spent only about an hour and a half in the snow. They had fun though and didn’t complain about being cold.

My adventures at home with Sylvie weren’t as exciting or fun. I decided to try the “Toilet Train in Less than a Day” book to potty train her. We got all the necessary supplies: a doll that wets, a potty, treats, loose fitting panties, lots of drinks. With no distractions in the house, I locked us in the kitchen and tried to show her how to give the dolly a drink and pull her pants down and put her on the potty. Sylvie wasn’t interested in the doll or helping the doll go potty. So, I tried teaching her to pull her own panties down and sit on the potty. She did it, but I had to practically hold her down because she won’t sit still for more than 2 seconds unless the TV is on. She ended up peeing on the floor 4 times and pooping under the table. No pee or poop in the potty. After 2 1/2 hours of trying, I gave up and put her to bed with a diaper on. I guess she’s not ready and being pregnant, it’s too hard for me to be sitting on a cold floor cleaning up messes. Oh well, we’ll try again later.

Jelly Belly Factory

A trip to the Jelly Belly Factory: free tour, fee Jelly Bellys, lots of sugar, lots of fun.

There is no school this week. We've been trying to keep busy. Monday we went to the mall, yesterday the library. Today, I'm painting the bathroom. What was I thinking???? I'm 29 weeks pregnant. I've only done about 1/2 of it and it'll need a second coat and I'm EXHAUSTED!!!! I took on a project that is too big for me right now....I'm always tired.
Tomorrow we will continue our outings with a trip to the park with a friend and Friday a playdate here at our house. Not too exciting, but keeping the kids from getting too bored. I think Saturday we will go to the Jelly Belly Factory since we didn't get to go today.
pictures will be posted later.
p.s. Blogger is lame. It won't let me publish my posts. I have to save them first and then go to Edit Posts and then I can publish it. Plus it takes forever to upload pictures. Any suggestions?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! We have been celebrating this lovely holiday since last Thursday when we had our Valentine's party for preschool. We made Valentine's and bags and exchanged them, we decorated Valentine's cupcakes. Friday, Lucia had a party at school. Saturday, we got a surprise Valentine's box from the Hill's with all sorts of goodies, cards and homemade hair clips. This morning the kids (minus Lucia who didn't get out bed in time before school) got their little Valentine's goodies from me. I think they've now had enough sugar to last them at least a week! Julio is in San Francisco today, so I don't know when we'll get to go out and have a date. I guess nowadays it's more about the kids. Kind of sad. I will go get him his favorite treat today (pan dulce) and have it waiting for him when he gets home. Other than that, not such a romantic time for us! I'm still happy I have 4 Valentine's and I love them all very much!
